Restoration

Solid wood doors add a majestic look to your home's curb appeal. Here in the Midwest we experience all four seasons. The weather really takes a toll on the finish of your door through to the wood if your door is not properly maintained. Proper maintenance requires your door to be refinished every 2-3 years. Failure to do so then requires additional restoration in order to return your door to its prior glory.

Our latest project was a five step restoration process. The door was left to dry out for a couple of days. After, the decayed wood was removed along with the damaged veneer. New wood of the same species was used to restore the door's integrity. New veneer was then applied to the door. Once dry, the door was stained to match the interior side of the door. Lastly, six coats of an exterior grade clear satin finish were applied for maximum protection. The trim was also treated the same.

All of the glues, stains, and finishes used for this project are eco-friendly and water-based.
